Key Insights: SDSN Thailand University Sustainability Study Tour 2025 at Kanazawa Institute of Technology

In collaboration with SDSN Japan, SDSN Thailand is proud to release the official summary report from our University Sustainability Study Tour 2025, hosted at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT) in December 2025.

Under the theme “Advancing University’s SDG Localization through Transformative Leadership and Strategic Partnerships,” the program brought together executive leaders from 11 universities across Thailand. Together, they explored how universities can move beyond theory to become active catalysts for sustainable change.

While the full report is available in Thai, we have synthesized four core insights that reflect the transformative takeaways from this delegation:

  1. Sustainability must be driven through an institutional ecosystem. Advancing the SDGs requires the integration of policy, governance, teaching, operations, and organizational culture into a coherent system.
  2. Real-world problem-based learning is central to student development. Learning rooted in community and societal contexts strengthens systems thinking, practical skills, and social responsibility among students.
  3. Collaboration is a critical enabler of impact. Partnerships with industry, communities, and networks expand learning opportunities and amplify sustainability outcomes.
  4. Impact-oriented evaluation should supersede ranking-driven metrics. Universities should prioritize tangible outcomes for learners and society while strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity in response to future change.

SDSN Thailand continues to facilitate these leadership exchanges to support Thai higher education institutions in their ongoing efforts toward global sustainability.

Stay tuned for the 2026 program!
